How to Choose the Right Contractor for Your Project

Home/Blog/Guides

Six questions that separate a contractor who will finish your project from one who will start it.

The gap between a project that finishes on programme and one that drifts is almost never the tools. It is the decisions taken in the four weeks before anyone arrives on site — what is specified, what is priced, and who is accountable when something on the drawing does not match what is in the ground.

Start with a scope, not a price

A quote is only as good as the scope behind it. Two contractors can price the same job forty per cent apart simply because one has allowed for the work the other has left as a provisional sum. Ask for the scope in writing, line by line, and compare that first.

Programme beats price

A build that runs three months late costs more than the cheapest quote saved. Ask for a dated programme with stage milestones, and ask what happens to those dates when a variation is approved. A contractor who has thought about it will answer immediately.
